Ingredients

For the patties:

  • 300 g (10 oz) ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce or mustard for extra flavor
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil (for frying)

For the burger:

  • 2 burger buns
  • 2 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices of tomato
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2–4 pickles, sliced
  • Ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise β€” to taste
  • Butter (for toasting buns)

Preparation Steps

  1. Shape the patties:

Form the ground beef into two equal patties, about 1.5 cm (Β½ inch) thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each to prevent puffing while cooking. Season with salt and pepper.

  2. Cook the patties:

Heat oil in a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side (for medium), adding cheese during the last minute so it melts.

  3. Toast the buns:

Cut the buns in half and toast them cut-side down in butter on a pan until golden.

  4. Assemble the burger:

Spread sauces on the buns, layer lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and the hot cheesy patty. Top with the bun lid and press gently.

  5. Serve immediately:

Pair with fries, coleslaw, or a side salad for a full meal.

Chef's Tip

  • Meat matters: Use ground beef with some fat (around 20%) for a juicy, flavorful patty.
  • No need to overmix: Handle the meat gently β€” overworking it makes the burger tough.
  • Want extra flavor? Add garlic powder, smoked paprika, or finely chopped onions into the meat mix.
